After a year of not self harming after five years of continuous grief, I treated myself to this tattoo set. I used to be the bird on the left, stuck wondering what to do and where to go but doing nothing about it. I am now free and very much so the bird on the right. Also inspired by Regina Spektor’s “Two Birds”.

I love every single person who has related to me through this photo. Please know that I am always here to talk to and there are much better outlets. <3 Cutting is a sick addiction and you’re not weird or crazy or anything people may have led you to believe. I still feel awkward showing people my tattoos because different people react differently to the scars. You are beautiful and you can make it out.

I’ll always admire this set and the journey they represent.  Meg’s recovery was partly what prompted my own.  As opposed to the distant success stories of public figures, Meg’s story was much more tangible.  Coming from the same hometown, her story is one with which I could easily relate and find inspiration in.  Hearing of her success proved to me that recovery truly is possible.  After 7 years of struggling, I’m finally free.
